I am , let's say , relieved to read this piece . I'm not the only one fed up to the teeth of the wall to wall coverage after the Queens demise . I dreaded it but it seems far worse than I expected . I didn't actually mind the Queen herself but she had faults , she was not perfect and not the deity people are making her out to be particularly regarding proroguing parliament , vetting bills that would affect her estates and wealth, then of course the Andrew business . So I'm sad she has died as a person but not sad for the monarchy . It is outdated and far too big and costly and has to change in line with other European monarchies . Fortunately for me I live in France so can avoid the media saturation and of course I am not directly affected by any cancellations as others have been .

It's very, very strange, what's going on.

As we approach winter with crazy bills to face and major political problems ahead, everyone is suddenly turned away from it all by the death of one person. We must look soft in the head to people abroad. In fact, we are looking pretty soft in the head from where I'm sitting. It's become a kind of competitive mourning. Who is prepared to do the most ridiculous things. The endless shuffle past the coffin of people who are all bobbing half curtsies and weird bows because the people in front did it and they think they must do it too. Crossing themselves when they probably never go to church. It's all a bit pathetic really.

I liked the Queen. I didn't think they should have access to so much property and money, but I was happy she was doing what she was doing. I was sad to hear she had died, although not shocked given the photo of her with Liz Truss. But now? I have very little interest in Charles who hasn't exactly covered himself in glory in his 73 years. Time to stop all this bowing and scraping and wake up to our failings and do something about them.
