The disgusting scenes in Knowsley last night, in which far-right thugs rioted outside a hotel containing asylum seekers, is the latest sign of an increasingly emboldened fascist presence on Britain’s streets.

A police van was set on fire, and missiles were thrown at police, as the far-right protesters surrounded the hotel.

The scenes in Knowsley come just a few months after another far-right terrorist firebombed an asylum centre in Dover.

The incidents in Knowsley and Dover are alarming enough in their own right, coming as they do amid the rise of an increasingly visible online far-right presence in the UK.

Yet it is the reaction (or lack of reaction) from the Home Secretary to these developments that is really worrying.
