Elon Musk is trying to stop you from reading this
The richest man on the planet appears to have decided, on a whim, to try and prevent independent journalists from earning a living.
Billionaire man-baby Elon Musk appears to have just blocked the sharing and interaction with any Tweet on his platform that links to a post on Substack.
Musk also appears to have blocked the embedding of Tweets on Substack posts themselves.
The apparent decision follows the expected rollout by Substack of a new feature allowing users to post short-form updates to their subscribers.
It therefore seems that the richest man on the planet has decided, on a whim, to make it even harder for genuinely independent journalism to survive.
With around half of new subscriptions to this newsletter, and the Byline Supplement, coming from links on Twitter, this represents a serious threat to the future of independent subscriber-funded journalism.
So if you are among the more than 5,000 people subscribed to the freelist for this newsletter and have not yet converted to a full subscription, please do so.
It is only by supporting independent journalism that a genuine alternative to a media entirely dependent on the whims of people like Musk can ever be built.
